What a Pet Wellness Exam Entails

Pet wellness exams begin with a physical, during which we check your pet’s heart, temperature, eyes, ears, nose, mouth/teeth, skin/coat, and joints for unusual changes. We then discuss your pet’s life at home, including its habits, behavior, and diet, and determine the most appropriate treatments for maintaining its health.

Wellness exams are the best time to discuss any concerns you have about your dog or cat’s health so we can address them directly. For yearly visits, be sure to bring a stool sample so we can check for intestinal parasites. Once we have examined your pet and judged it to be in good health, we can administer its vaccinations. If you are interested in having your pet microchipped, we can also offer this service during your pet’s wellness visit.

Parasite Prevention for Your Pet

Parasites are a common problem for our pets, which is why we always recommend preventatives (medications that prevent parasite infestations in and on your pet). Parasites your pet may encounter include heartworms, which are transmitted by mosquitoes; ticks, fleas, roundworms, and hookworms.

We offer preventatives to protect your companion against all of these parasites, and they can be given orally, topically, or as an injection.

We carry the following preventatives:

ProHeart: Prevents heartworm disease; injectable, lasts 6 months (dogs only)
Interceptor: prevents heartworm disease, controls adult hookworms, removes and controls roundworms, tapeworm,s and whipworms; flavor tab, one dose lasts 30 days (dogs only)
Nexgard: Prevents fleas and ticks; chewable tab, one dose lasts 30 days (dogs only)
Bravecto: Prevents fleas and ticks; chewable tab (dogs) or topical (cats), one dose lasts 90 days
Revolution: Prevents heartworm and fleas; topical, one dose lasts 30 days (dogs and cats)
Cheristin: Prevents fleas; topical, one dose lasts up to 37 days (cats only)

An annual lab work package that includes
- 4Dx test (heartworm and tick-borne diseases)
