Pet Vaccinations
Vaccinations are a cornerstone of your pet’s preventive care, protecting them from serious and potentially life-threatening diseases. At Skipworth Veterinary Clinic, we provide tailored vaccination plans to keep your pets healthy and thriving.
Cat & Dog Vaccinations in Richmond, KY
Dog and cat vaccines are essential to your pet’s wellness care regimen. They are one of the most effective forms of disease prevention and can keep your pet healthier and longer. We also offer vaccine titers here in Richmond to assess your pet’s immunity levels and determine whether vaccinations are essential.
As with human vaccines, pet vaccinations stimulate the immune system to produce antibodies to fight off intrusive viruses. When your veterinarian first meets your pet, they will help you decide which vaccines will most benefit their health.

Non-Core Vaccines
The non-core vaccines listed above are suggested for pets that may be at risk of exposure to those viruses. The Lepto and Lyme vaccines are recommended for dogs that spend a considerable amount of time outdoors, and run the risk of encountering leptospirosis and ticks (which can transmit Lyme disease) in their environment.
Bordetella, the kennel cough vaccine, is recommended for dogs that will be boarding, visiting the dog park, going to the groomer, or spending time at daycare. Influenza is also recommended for dogs that are boarding or in daycare.
When to Begin Vaccinating Your Dog or Cat
Puppies and kittens should receive their first vaccination at about 6 weeks of age. We usually start with the parvo/distemper vaccine, which is given every 3 weeks until they’re 15 weeks old, and then once a year thereafter.
The rabies vaccine is also recommended annually. Rabies and distemper are extremely important to vaccinate against, because these viruses are almost always fatal if an animal is infected.
Choosing non-core vaccines for your pet will depend on their age, size, lifestyle, and risk of exposure. Your veterinarian will help you create a customized vaccination plan that accommodates all of their needs, through every life stage.
